On the occasion of Pihl & Søn's preservation, KHR Architects visited the building to see and experience its design. The former Pihl and Son Today, the building stands as an important landmark in the history of the firm, as an icon of modernist architecture and the break with postmodernist architecture.
Old buildings often harbour qualities and potential that are not apparent at first glance. With the right transformation, existing architecture can not only be preserved, but also take on new relevance, function and value. We spoke to architect Morten Nøhr Frandsen about what he looks for in an existing building, when it makes sense to reuse it, and why what initially appears to be a limitation can sometimes become the project’s greatest asset.
KHR Architecture is the client’s consultant for University College Copenhagen in connection with the development of new facilities at KP Campus Nørrebro, where the first phase comprises a new building for the health care programmes. The forthcoming development is intended to provide modern and flexible facilities for teaching, practical training and simulation, as well as attractive study, social and working environments. As the client’s consultant, alongside Spangenberg & Madsen, we will assist KP throughout the project’s development and help ensure a sound basis for the decisions that will shape the forthcoming construction project.
The Norwegian documentary series *Barnesykehuset* returns with a new series from Glasblokkene in Bergen. The first series was a huge hit with viewers, and now the series continues with new stories from life at the children’s and young people’s hospital. For KHR, the series also offers a unique insight into our architecture in use. The camera follows children, families and staff through the hospital’s spaces and shows how daylight, views, nature and space for everyday life form part of daily life at Glasblokkene.
