Steno Diabetes Centre Zealand opened in 2019 with a special focus on tackling health inequality in diabetes. Around 10,000 people receive treatment at the centre each year, but the ambition is that everyone with diabetes in the region - around 45,000 people - will see an improvement in their treatment through the centre's work. Due to Region Zealand's decentralised hospital structure, the Steno Diabetes Centre Zealand<\/a> distributed across multiple locations. It is also integrated into the region's mental health services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n KHR Architecture has been involved in the establishment of the five new centres from the very beginning. All centres are renovation or transformation projects in connection with the region's hospitals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \"We have conducted user processes to understand the needs and wishes of both patients and staff. This insight was then translated into five visions and ten concrete guiding principles that have guided all five projects to ensure a good environment for all users and a common thread across the five locations.\"<\/em> says project manager Kirsten Vittrup Bernild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the project, input was provided to the client and architects on each project to ensure the right prioritisation to create five high-quality healthcare buildings with a common thread across the five locations, each with their own inherent differences.
