270 school buildings in sight<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\"The aim of the investment in federal schools is to build new schools, expand and renovate existing ones, and, of course, to promote digitalisation,\" says the Austrian government. It was decided to bring the programme forward \"because it is good for the schools and acts as an economic driver for the regional economy. We are talking about 270 construction projects across Austria.\"<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Equal access to learning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Austrian government\u2019s aim for the school development programme is to modernise and digitise, whilst ensuring equal access to good schools in all parts of the country. Among other things, this means that far greater capacity must be established in a city such as Vienna, where, by 2025, space must be made for just over 100 extra classes per year. Conversely, schools in areas with falling pupil numbers are to be renovated and refurbished to meet actual needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Schulbau kompakt: Professional event on school construction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It was against the backdrop of this major Austrian school development initiative that the German organiser of school fairs, \u201dSchulbau\u201d, had organised the event \u201dSchool building compact<\/a>\u201d, which took place on 9 May in Vienna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denmark is a pioneer in the field of modern educational buildings and digitalisation, so it makes perfect sense for the Austrians to look north for inspiration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Focus on the German-speaking market<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

KHR Architecture, together with German partners, has just submitted competition proposals for three North German schools, including the prestigious HafenCity Campus<\/a> and Wilhelmsburg Island Campus<\/a> in Hamburg, and has just finished the design work School at the Broad Reed<\/a>to be built in Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Austrian government has earmarked \u20ac2.4 billion for new school construction and renovation over a 10-year period.
