International recognition for fully digital healthcare<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Project manager Ida Garvik Villadsen, who heads up KHR Architecture in Norway, appreciates the recognition from buildingSMART International<\/a>which has selected the Glass Blocks as one of four finalists in the \"construction\" category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- We are truly delighted by this recognition, which, in all modesty, I must say is entirely deserved. Helse Bergen<\/a> is a visionary developer who has made it possible for the second phase of the Haukeland Children\u2019s and Adolescents\u2019 Hospital and Women\u2019s Clinic to be run entirely digitally. This means that not only are we designing the project paperlessly, but the entire construction site is also managed digitally through systematic completion and digital collaboration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The results speak for themselves<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ida Garvik adds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- The project is on schedule, meeting both its quality targets and budget, which is perhaps the best evidence of the strength of working \u2013 and, not least, collaborating \u2013 digitally across the many professional groups involved in a project of this size and complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Everyone involved has access at all times to up-to-date information on all aspects of the project and can work efficiently without wasting time waiting, coordinating or making mistakes due to out-of-date or missing information.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A completely new way of working together<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kristian Brandseth, project manager for the project at Helse Bergen, explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Previously, it was common practice for documentation from the various contractors to be submitted after the work had been completed. That was also the case at Haukeland previously. In this project, however, everyone has submitted their information digitally before the actual construction work began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- 40,000 items, such as light fittings, toilets or pipes, are stored in the system with status codes. There are no barriers between the data systems, and both the client and the consultants have access to the same data. This means that everyone can plan and manage their work using the same, up-to-date data. It is quite unique, and it ensures quality. We feel that we have adopted a completely new way of working.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps the world\u2019s best hospital<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The second phase of the Haukeland Children\u2019s and Adolescents\u201d Hospital in Bergen covers a total of 50,000 m\u00b2 at a cost of NOK 3.5 billion and is expected to be completed by the turn of the year 2022\/2023. The building is described as \u201dperhaps the world\u2019s best hospital\u2019 and, together with phase 1, which was completed in 2016, the complex will cover a total of 79,000 m\u00b2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the architectural consortium BUS(P), KHR Architecture has drawn up the preliminary designs and detailed designs for both phases of the Haukeland Children\u2019s and Youth Hospital, also known as the \u2018Glasblokkene\u2019. BUSP(P) is a collaboration between KHR Architecture, Ramb\u00f8ll Architecture and Landscape Trondheim, and PKA Architects, with Sch\u00f8nherr Landscape acting as a sub-consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
