Schulzentrum Lehrte-Süd is a large school project where KHR Architecture, together with German partners, will design and project manage a comprehensive school for 1500 students in the town of Lehrte near Hannover in Northern Germany. The project includes the preservation of an existing building and the architecture will allow some of the school's facilities to be used for external activities and events after school hours.
This is a PPP project with a 25-year term, which provides a good opportunity to prioritise long-lasting architectural and material solutions.
Gymnasium Hochrad is a secondary school for grades 5-13 in an attractive residential area on the banks of the Elbe just on the outskirts of Hamburg.
The school will be expanded with a new building for classrooms and canteen. Old sports halls are to be replaced by a new one.
Due to limited space, the idea is to place the large volume of the sports hall at -1 level on the sloping terrain. This creates a more harmonious whole in terms of height and makes it possible to utilise parts of the hall's roof to expand the schoolyard. The stairs between the existing and the new outdoor area create a nice seating oasis with a view of the schoolyard to the south.
The classroom building itself is built as a two-storey, lightweight wooden structure on top of the other part of the sports hall, which minimises the carbon footprint and saves space.
HafenCity in Hamburg is a popular new district that has emerged in recent years. A new 8-track secondary school and day care centre will meet the rapidly growing demand for education and care. At the same time, the school will be a meeting place for the local community and associations after school.
KHR Architecture was one of 12 teams selected to participate in a closed architectural competition for the prestigious building.
KHR has prepared a competition proposal for a new integrated day care centre for the Municipality of Copenhagen. The day care centre will accommodate both kindergarten and nursery groups.
The expansion of SDU with the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is based on a continuation of SDU's clear building structure and architectural idiom, which KHR Architecture created back in the 1970s.
The new faculty building connects New OUH with the existing SDU. The merger of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the university hospital will promote collaboration between practice and research and thus provide optimal conditions for education, research and innovation in the healthcare sector. New HEALTH and New OUH is a research and hospital project totalling 275,000 m2 and a construction sum of DKK 6.3 billion.
Utterslev School is the result of a project competition won by KHR in 2000. The school has two tracks and runs from kindergarten to grade 10. Nature and the natural sciences are a guiding principle in the school's pedagogy, and the breaking down of barriers between traditional subject areas and the integration of school and leisure time are a motive for the school's structure and organisation.
KHR won 1st prize in an international architectural competition with its proposal for the Biocenter. The Biocenter inspires dynamic collaboration and creates the best environment for a multidisciplinary research environment.
KUA's architecture is the result of a competition won by KHR Architecture in 1997. The first phase of the project was completed in 2002 next to the original university buildings, which have since been replaced by new ones in a second and third phase of construction on what is now the University of Copenhagen South Campus. The 6-storey university buildings with a yellow travertine brick facade overlook the then-newly constructed canal and ample outdoor areas that help to tie the longhouses and the entire campus together.
